Baja Ha Ha 2025, Floating Down the Coast
The Baja Ha Ha sailing rally is finished, but our memories will live on, including the many we we have crewed on Profligate, the “mothership” and committee boat for this fun-filled sailing event that starts in San Diego, California and finishes in Cabo San Lucas at the tip of the Baja peninsula in Mexico.
Green flashes graced us with nearly every sunset
Sailing on Mālama Kai was an experience that took years of work and dedication for this sweet reward.

We had the pleasure of sailing with a most excellent crew! Thank you to Gail, a Ramona cowgirl turned sailor who literally learned the “ropes” overnight, and Chris, a circumnavigator turned crew to help his old pals float down the coast.

One of the highlights was sailing at night into Turtle Bay while Gail and Lynn were on watch. We heard their spouts first, then watched a pod of dolphins swim next to us, illuminated only only by the full moon. So magical!

The friendly folks at the Turtle Bay beach fiesta
Other highlights were meeting locals in Turtle Bay, who graciously welcomed us to their town. Our final stop at Bahia Santa Maria gave us the opportunity to hike in the hills of this rugged piece of coastline and enjoy the most remote sailor’s fiesta with a live band on the bluff overlooking about 120 boats from the rally anchored in one of the most beautiful locations on the coast of Baja.

After finishing in Cabo, we had the sweetest sail of the whole trip on our three day journey to Banderas Bay with a sweet beam reach and plenty of dolphins!
