Autumnal Equinox in San Diego

Greetings from San Diego, California. As our northern hemishphere floats into fall, we celebrate the autumnal equinox in a climate that is pretty welcoming year round.

One of our crew (Lynn) is a native San Diegan. Its wonderful for her to be home, with delightful visits with friends and family, but, alas, being on a sailboat gives us the options and opportunities to travel. Our sights are on the warm waters of Mexico next.

As we reflect on our journey from Puget Sound, Washington to San Diego, we recall the events that brought joy to the crew. Hoisting our new code zero sail for the first time was a highlight, not only because she performed beyond our expectations, but at that point in the second half of our trip, after a stop in Eureka for repairs and a crew change, the sea conditions had calmed and the wind had filled in at just the right amount for the code zero to get Mālama Kai moving smoothly across the sea.

Our wildlife list for the trip included whales, dolphins,, seals, sealions, a sunfish, a shark, seabirds, and a hitchhiking kingfisher.
